1. Log shift start to end, including driving to a busy zone.
2. Count paid rides and unpaid idle minutes.
3. Record all miles while the app is on.
4. Sum fares, tips, and promotions.
5. Subtract gas, maintenance per mile, tolls, parking, cleaning supplies.
6. Apply a planning tax reserve; divide net by total hours.

Costs drivers undercount

• Higher mileage accelerating depreciation.
• Airport queue time with uncertain payoffs.
• Rideshare insurance rider or commercial policy costs (confirm with your insurer).
• Occasional cleaning and phone mounts.

When rideshare can be worth it

• Your city pays consistent net hourly after idle time on normal shifts.
• You already drive a reliable car you can afford to maintain.
• You need short-term cash and accept vehicle wear as a real cost.
• You compare net hourly to delivery apps and local hourly work honestly.

When rideshare is not worth it

• Most earnings require surge you cannot count on for rent.
• Idle time dominates and you counted only active trip minutes.
• A car payment plus rideshare miles creates negative equity fast.
• Safety or stress costs are too high for the net rate (personal call).
